Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-thon: April 25, 2015 #dewey #rahrahreadathon

I will be away from home most of the day so I am only planning to read one book - Yes Chef: A Memoir by Marcus Samuelsson. I will read portions of it whenever I get a chance.

I am trying to step up my non-fiction reading for the summer. Not so sure it's a good idea to read a foodie memoir with snacks not being readily available...

Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-thon is an international reading challenge. For 24 hours, participants read books, post on their blogs (and/or social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, etc.) about their reading, and visit other readers’ blogs. Participants also take part in mini-challenges throughout the day and win prizes. There are five ways you can participate: Reader, Cheerleader, Mini-Challenge Host, Organizer and Prize Donor.

I'm in the #Fraterfest Read-a-Thon. Are You? DAY 5

Caffeinated Book Reviewer

This is my start line for the Fraterfest Read-a-Thon (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer). We'll be reading from the following: Rhiannon Frater books and/or books in one of these genres: paranormal, horror, mystery, suspense, zombie, vampire, shapeshifter, witch, dystopian, post-apocalyptic, ghost, etc.

My loose goals are to finish up the UNDEAD vampire series by MaryJanice Davidson, read Pretty When She Dies by Rhiannon Frater, participate in at least one challenge, and visit as many of the participants blogs as I can. I will be tweeting my progress using the official read-a-thon hashtag - #Fraterfest.

What are your plans?

October 7

I don't think that I will be able to visit other read-a-thon participants until Wednesday or Thursday. Real life is colliding with my reading life. Still reading though...

October 6

I finished Undead and Unsure. I finally found out what was going on with Jessica's babies. And it ended with an interesting twist. I still may stop reading the UNDEAD series with book 13.

I am starting on Zombie Bake-Off by Stephen Graham Jones. Have you read it?

How are you doing with your reading goals?

October 5

I am a little more than halfway through Undead and Unsure (#12) by MaryJanice Davidson. I think that I am over Betsy. The funny is starting to wear off of the flaky self-centered vampire queen. I may read one more UNDEAD novel and then I am going to walk away from this series. [I have similar feelings about the Stephanie Plum series.]

I checked out the other read-a-thon challenges. Seems like they are focused on books about witches.  I haven't read many books about witches. Must diversify. Must diversify.

I have decided to visit other read-a-thon participants on Monday.

October 4

Finally finished Undead and Underwater by MaryJanice Davidson. That book threw off my reading mojo big time. UGH! Usually, I am able to finish an UNDEAD audiobook in one or two days. I had been listening to Undead and Underwater since September 25. Fraterfest pushed me to finish it and move on. Thank goodness.

Now I am working on the Fraterfest Thirstbuster Challenge hosted by Chene at Mean Who You Are and listening to the audiobook of Undead and Unsure (#12) by MaryJanice Davidson.

What are you reading?

October 3

Right now, I am struggling through Undead and Underwater (#11.5) by MaryJanice Davidson. It is a book of three novellas. I am listening to the audiobook (and falling asleep).

I completed the Jigsaw Puzzle Challenge hosted by April at My Shelf Confessions.

Join the fun! Beat the Heat Readathon (includes wrap-up)

  • The Beat the Heat Readathon runs from July 29th through August 11th.
  • Sign up at Auntie Spinelli Reads or Phantasmic Reads.
  • There will be mini-challenges throughout the Readathon for participants, along with a grand prize giveaway at the end.
  • To be eligible for the grand prize giveaway, you must sign up by August 5th.

What to read? What to read? I am 7 books away from my 100 reading goal. I am too excited!!!

I am working on my readathon list tonight. I would like to polish off the last nine books during this challenge. However, I think that is wishful thinking when I add in the shows from Hulu's Summer Binge-A-Thon.

Now through August 11 is a lot of time. I just may surprise myself.

What are you going to read?

“Let’s do this!”

UPDATE:

The readathon has been extended to August 18. Read on people. Read on.

Starting Line

I am going to finish up with Adela Arthur and the Creator's Clock (The Chronicles of A, #1) by Judyann McCole. I am posting an author interview and book review on A. Literary Mafia.

_____________

I read NOS4A2 by Joe Hill by accident... it's a long story. This is officially my favorite horror book. SMH. I have never said that before. Review to come! I hope that someone makes a movie adaptation.

I read The Bird Savior because I have been on a dystopian kick since the Apocalypse Blog Hop. I am still confused by what I read, so I haven't posted a review yet. I kinda want to do a big year now. LOL!

I read How to Survive a Horror Movie by Seth Grahame-Smith in preparation for my Vamps vs. Zombies Month posts (August 17 - 31). I don't watch horror movies often. I might not be sleeping much in September.

I read Welcome to the Darkness by L.M. Justus as part of a Xpresso book tour. It happens to be a vampire story so it will count towards my Vamps vs. Zombie readings. I'll be posting an author interview and giveaway on August 23 on A. Literary Mafia.

I read Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion as part of Vamps vs. Zombies Month. Review on this blog coming soon!  Did you watch the movie adaptation?

I read All My Life by Rucy Ban (Contemporary, New Adult, Romance). I posted a giveaway and book review on A. Literary Mafia.

I read The Priest's Graveyard by Ted Dekker because I needed a book about a spiritual leader for The Seasonal Reading Challenge on Goodreads.

Last day! Today, I am listening to Underground by Kat Richardson and visiting other readathon participants. See you soon.

Finish Line

I made it! I made it! I reached my goal of reading 100 books in a year. *does crazy happy dance*

I usually slack up on my reading around September so I have been trying to read as much as possible before then.

Join us for the annual Summer Lovin’ Readathon!

The Summer Lovin’ Readathon is a week-long readathon event hosted by seven independent bloggers! (Oh, Chrys!, Tumbling Books, Effortlessly Reading, Love Life Read, Shelf Addiction, Read Sleep Repeat, and Reviewing Wonderland)
Spend the week reading at your own pace, when and how you want too. There will be daily challenges for awesome prizes and opportunities to get points toward the Grand Prize Packs.
As if that weren’t enough – the week will end with a 24-hr marathon readathon! Twitter parties, mini-challenges, games, prizes given EVERY HOUR, and more chances to get points toward the Grand Prize Packs.
Sign-ups will be open through July 6th. I’m in, are you?!

I plan to start reading the Nikki Heat series by Richard Castle - inspired by the ABC television show Castle. Season 5 has just wrapped up with a doozy of a cliff-hanger (check out episode 24, Watershed).

Castle

The television show follows the lives of Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), a famous mystery novelist, and Kate Beckett (Stana Katic), a New York Police Department police detective, as they solve homicide crimes in New York City.

Premise: The NYPD brings Richard Castle in for questioning regarding a copy-cat murder based on one of his novels. He is immediately captivated and inspired by this unprecedented access to crime and murder. It's perfect timing. Castle has killed off the main character in his best-selling Storm book series and has writer's block.

Castle uses his connection with the Mayor to worm his way into shadowing Detective Beckett - temporarily. Once that initial case is solved, Castle decides to use Beckett as the model for the main character of his next book series starring Nikki Heat. The NYPD needs some good publicity so Detective Beckett is forced to work with her shadow longer than expected.

The popularity of the television show has spawned a series of published books (ghost-written) to match Richard Castle's works on the television show.

Be sure to check out all the available Nikki Heat books by author Richard Castle: Heat Wave, Naked Heat, Heat RisesFrozen Heat, and Deadly Heat (to be released on September 17, 2013).

“Class Orientation” Participation Post:

Introduce yourself and set your goals for the read-a-thon. Some interesting information to include in this post would be Where are you blogging from? What got you into blogging/reading? What is your favorite genre? The possibilities are endless, just be creative!

Hi. My name is Tallulah. I have had a blog for about two years. I would not saying that I have been "blogging" though. I read a lot of books. I scribble lots of notes (and some reviews) about those books on paper. I started blogging because I thought that it would be cool to move my scribbles online. Sadly, I haven't been good about actually posting them. <sigh> I hope to correct that this summer.

This week, I plan to read Heat Wave and Naked Heat.

My favorite genre is mystery. Any kind: traditional mystery, legal thriller, medical thriller, cozy mystery, police procedural, murder mystery, crime, detective story, gangster, hardboiled, young adult. I also like to read science fiction, romance, and fantasy.
