HOSTAGE (2005) - Movie Trailer

Earlier this week, I noticed that Hulu has a new movie category called films based on books.  The image of a salty Mr. Willis called to me from the list. So I have decided to start with Hostage.

Hostage is a 2005 movie thriller starring Bruce Willis and directed by Florent-Emilio Siri. The film is based on Hostage: A Novel by Robert Crais (adapted for film by Doug Richardson).

Although I am almost positive that I must have seen the movie when it came out, I cannot remember it. [Is that a bad sign?] So I am considering it "new to me."

I picked up the book today. Have you read it?

ALEX CROSS - Movie Trailer [starring Tyler Perry]

Check out the trailer for the upcoming movie Alex Cross (due for release on October 19, 2012).

Based on Cross by James Patterson (Alex Cross novel #12), the crime thriller stars Tyler Perry, Matthew Fox, and Rachel Nichols.

Today, Cross was re-released with the movie tie-in cover of Alex Cross (its name was changed to Alex Cross).

I must confesss: I HAVE NEVER READ A JAMES PATTERSON NOVEL.

So, I am not super excited about it. I blame the movies Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. I couldn't get through them. The Silence Of The Lambs? Couldn't finish it. Not that they were bad ... at least the parts that I saw through my fingers.  Seven? Saw it. Liked it. Freaked me out.

I'm convinced that serial killer movies aren't for me. Curiously, television shows with serial killers don't bother me. Go figure.

I feel like I should read some Patterson books anyway. Does he have a good series that doesn't involve serial killers?

UPDATE (10/3/12): Goodreads has suckered me in with its book-movie cross-promotion. I signed up for the book giveaway and RSVP'd to the movie (showin' Tyler Perry some support). Who is  gonna hold my hand? SMH.

The movie adaptation of Steve Harvey's book, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man: What Men Really Think About Love, Relationships, Intimacy, and Commitment, is opening in theaters on April 20, 2012. The movie, Think Like a Man, stars Michael Ealy, Jerry Ferrara , Meagan Good, Regina Hall, Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson, Terrence J, Jenifer Lewis, Romany Malco,Gary Owen, Gabrielle Union, and Chris Brown. That's quite an ensemble cast.

I just picked up a copy of the book today.

Have you read the book? What did you think?

Keep up with the movie:

Did the movie trailer kill Mr. Fox?

I was looking at DVDs available from the library and came across Fantastic Mr. Fox. Recently, I heard someone refer to George Clooney as Mr. Fox - connecting his "foxy" looks with his film character. Clooney was the voice of Mr. Fox in the film.

I like George Clooney. I like animated films. I wondered why I hadn't seen the movie before. Then I looked up the trailer on YouTube. My first thought was, "Meeh."  Is the trailer why I didn't see it? I can't remember. In looking at the YouTube comments, folks didn't think that the trailer did the movie justice. I decided against watching it until I realized that the film was based on a book of the same name by Roald Dahl (other famous works James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate FactoryThe BFG - The Big Friendly GiantMatildaand The Witches).

It made me wonder, did the movie trailer kill Fantastic Mr. Fox at the box office? Can a movie trailer make or break a movie?  Maybe. Movie-trailer maker Amanda Woods (played by Cameron Diaz) said in The Holiday, "That's why they pay me the big bucks."

Can you think of a movie whose trailer turned you away from watching it, even though it might have received good reviews? Roger Ebert seemed to like Fantastic Mr. Fox.

P.S. Check out Star Li's thoughts on music and movie trailers in her Women Wonder Blog post, The Music Makes the Movie: How a Trailer Can Make or Break your Film. I totally agree with her on Miami Vice.
