What Would Olivia Pope Read? Dan Bucatinsky #WWOPR | Days to 22 #Scandal

In lieu of pouring out a little liquor for the fallen, Olivia should read Dan Bucatinsky's Does This Baby Make Me Look Straight?: Confessions of a Gay Dad.

Bucatinsky portrayed the character of James Novak on Scandal. James was married to Cyrus Beene and was a co-parent of little Ella. I say "was" because he was shot and killed in the street - to the unexpected horror of everyone watching.

Who is going to take care of little Ella's well-being now? Cyrus is a workaholic and a self-proclaimed monster. Ella's godparents (Olivia and Fitz) are a hot mess - morally and emotionally. They were hooking up in the electrical closet at Ella's christening for Petey's sake.

Who is going to help Davide Rosen root out evil from behind the scenes in the White House?

Who I ask? Who!?!

What Would Olivia Pope Read? #WWOPR

According to my math, Olivia is at the beach. Which one? I dunno.

Olivia is always so busy on the show. She doesn't get many chances to enjoy a little quiet time. I'd recommend that she get in some reading while hanging out at the beach.

I am going to count down the days until Scandal's season premiere by suggesting books for Olivia's beach ereader. They'll be books that a gladiator might enjoy. You know, based on stuff from the show.

Do you watch Scandal? Care to join me? What books would you suggest for Olivia's beach ereader? Check out my #WWOPR posts.

Check out Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (S.2 Ep.14) via @Hulu #WWOPR | 23 Days until #Scandal

In my Conversations with Kerry Washington and Cast of SCANDAL post, Columbus Short (aka Harrison Wright) and the cast talk about the secretiveness surrounding the Scandal scripts. It makes them a bit nervous. They are never sure if their characters will be killed off in the next script or not. I didn't think that the main cast had anything to worry about when these conversations were recorded back in 2012.

My jaw dropped when I listened to the commentary again for my blog post. Flashing forward to season three, I immediately thought of episode 14, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. That episode. That episode. That episode!

In that episode:

  • A main character is gunned down on the street. I didn't think that it would really happen. How could the writers do such a thing? [Bang Bang]

  • Things start to get weird between Huck and Quinn. [Kiss Kiss]

Check out that episode of Scandal on Hulu.

Sally arranges a meeting with the NRA, sending the White House into a tailspin; Huck and Olivia come to startling realizations; a surprising person asks Pope and Associates for help. - Hulu

What did you think of this episode? Did you see any of the story lines coming?

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang brought a couple of good books to mind. Drop by tomorrow to check out my next recommendation for Olivia's beach ereader.

Getting to Know You Questions (Day 2) | #TraveltheWorldinBooksRAT (Sept. 1-14, 2014)

Hello everyone! I am so excited to be participating in the Travel the World in Books Readathon. You can follow my updates here.

Travel the World in Books Readathon, Day 2

Getting to Know You Questions

1. What’s the name of your blog, your blog URL  and how long have you been blogging?

The name of my blog is MAD Hoydenish (http://madhoydenish.blogspot.com/). I have been blogging off and on for about 5 years.

2. How many kids and/or fur babies do you have?
3

3. Where in the world does your family originate from?
Everyone in my family was made in America. Well, except for my cousin (by marriage) whose family is from Japan.

4. Can you speak any foreign languages?
I kinda sorta, but not really speak little to no Spanish (studied in high school and college). I started working on learning French last month. I'll be talking about it more in a future readathon post.

5. Give a shout out to a blogger you visited during the Readathon.
I visited Guiltless Reading to check out the Make Your Own Book Map Mini-Challenge & Giveaway. It looks pretty cool, but I must admit that I am a little intimidated. I hope to start on my map when I return from vacation.

Cover Reveal: Dead New World (Adult Action Dystopian)

I'm excited to be a part of the cover reveal for Dead New World by Ryan Hill, an Action Dystopian that releases October 13th by Curiosity Quills Press.
deadcover

Description:

Zombies aren’t mindless anymore.

Before the world fell into chaos, the undead existed only in the imagination. Now, more of them walk the earth than living. Zombies move about freely, while humans entomb themselves inside concrete barricades to stay alive.

All that, while the leader of a powerful cult - known only as Reverend - becomes the next threat to the rebuilding United States. Believing zombies to be God’s latest creation, making humanity obsolete, he wants to give every man, woman, and child the chance to become one. With his combined army of humans and zombies, he may well get his wish.

Best friends Holt and Ambrose went up against the Reverend once. Holt lost a foot and a zombie bit Ambrose…though he survived the virus, only to become a human-zombie hybrid, reviled by the living and unwelcome among the dead. When the Reverend kidnaps the woman Holt loves, the race is on to save her from a fate worse than death.

Excerpt:
I tried to get a good look at him, but the lack of light made it impossible. “They said most people don’t last a day after being bitten. You’ve made it four. I guess I should congratulate you.” Surviving this awful disease longer than most. What a terrible silver lining. I bet he wished the virus would get it over with and turn him.

“Yeah, lucky me.” Ambrose coughed into his bed sheets. “Maybe they’ll give me a prize, like some bacon or something.”

“What… what does it feel like?”

Ambrose shrugged. “Kind of like being sick. Had a fever at first, then some numbness over part of my body.”

“Is it getting any worse?”

“No.” Ambrose sniffed. “Some parts still feel like me, others… like these gray parts, nothing.” He pointed at his arm where the skin had turned a sickly gray. “They’re dead, I guess.”

Nancy loudly cleared her throat. “We need to get you back to your room. They patrol this place pretty regularly, especially when we have… guests.”

I nodded to her, then turned my attention back to Ambrose. “I have to go. I’m sorry. I wish it was me in there, instead of you.”

Ambrose stepped up to the window. The light from the hallway revealed his face. For the first time, I got a glimpse of what his loyalty to me cost him. I froze, unable to take a breath for a long beat. One of his eyes remained normal, but the other took on that awful redness. Patches of dead skin were all over his face. The guilt rising up seemed almost too much to bear. What kind of hell had I sent my friend to?

ryanhill (1) About the Author:
Growing up, Ryan Hill used to spend his time reading and writing instead of doing homework. This resulted in an obsession with becoming a writer, but also a gross incompetence in the fields of science and mathematics. A graduate of North Carolina State University, Ryan has been a film critic for over five years. He lives in Raleigh, NC, with his dog/shadow Maggie. Ryan also feels strange about referring to himself in the third person.

What Would Olivia Pope Read? The Little Black Book of Wine #WWOPR | 24 Days until #Scandal

#WhereisOlivaPope? According to my math, Olivia Pope and Jake Ballard are at a beach somewhere. They are drinking wine, eating popcorn, making out, and planning their next steps.

Gladiators, I was glad to find out that it wasn't just me thinking it: Olivia doesn't seem to consume much food - except for wine and popcorn. Well, I guess she eats the occasional hamburger for Jake's sake now. LOL!

"Jake Plays Olivia's Pretend Boyfriend: Jake dutifully arrives at Olivia's apartment to continue their relationship ruse, but draws some firm lines around the topics of real food and what Liv cannot tell him to do." - Hulu

Scandal: From Season 3 Episode 12 | Aired on 03/06/2014 | TV-14

We learned in a Scandal flashback that Rowan (Olivia's father) opened her eyes and taste buds to the world of wine. In honor of that moment, I would add The Little Black Book of Wine by Elizabeth Poyet to Olivia's beach ereader.

"The Little Black Book of Wine: A Simple Guide to the World of Wine serves up everything you need to know about wine, minus the pretense. Demystifies lingo and lore and teaches how to serve, preserve, store, and evaluate wines.

Covers wine terms, developing your wine sense, types of grapes, and wines of France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, U.S., Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina, and Chile.

It's a mini tour guide to wine country and beyond!"

BTW:

I am listening to The Red Dragon as part of the Travel the World in Books Readathon. It is set in China. So right now, I am thinking that Olivia and Jake are on a beach in China, like Bo'ao Yudai Beach. Bo'ao Yudai is tropical and isn't plagued with tourists. The perfect place to lay low until they decide their next steps.
