#NowShowing... Fury of a Highland Dragon by @CoreeneCallahan + #giveaway

Fury of a Highland Dragon
by Coreene Callahan

GENRE: Paranormal Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB
Trapped by a future she refuses to face…
Accused of cyber espionage by the United States government, ethical hacker Ivy Macpherson is now on the FBI’s most wanted list. Out of options, she runs, desperate for time to prove her innocence. When fate takes an unexpected turn, bringing her face-to-face with Tydrin, she must decide—trust a man more dangerous than the hunters on her trail to keep her safe. Or risk capture by a covert agency well known for ruthlessness.
Condemned by a past he doesn’t want to remember…
Cursed with a terrible temper, Scottish dragon-warrior Tydrin struggles to atone for a mistake that took innocent lives. Unable to forgive himself, he returns to the scene of his crime in hopes of finding absolution, but discovers a woman in need of his help instead. Intervening in the nick of time, he whisks Ivy to safety, only to realize the daughter of the family he wronged is the one destined to steal his heart.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT

Feet rooted to the ground, Tydrin stared at the female. He blinked to clear his vision. Nothing. No change in his visual field and—bloody hell. It couldn’t be. He must be seeing things. Must be imagining the impossible. But no matter how many times he forced himself to refocus, nothing changed. She remained front and center, kneeling in the dirt, head bowed, hands resting on her thighs. The submissive position drew him tight, messing with his ability to think for a second.

Tydrin shook his head.

The movement knocked brain cells into motion and…Good Christ. Unbelievable. She was real. He wasn’t imagining her. Or the radiating warmth frothing around her like sea foam. Glowing bright blue, the female’s aura lit up the space around her. Her bio-energy hummed and his dragon half woke, setting off a dangerous chain reaction. Bone-deep hunger punched through. His body came alive. His mind dulled, blocking out everything but her. Long red hair pulled into a messy bun, she shuffled closer to the headstone. Mumbling another apology, she cleared debris away from the granite base. The task was one he usually preformed. On this date, every year when he visited. Right now, though, he didn’t care about his mission.

Or about paying his respects.

Struck stupid by her, only one thought registered—a high-energy female here…in middle the of Aberdeen.

Tydrin frowned. Holy shite. He was in trouble. Neck deep and sinking fast without any idea how to control his reaction to her.

KISS OF THE INCUBUS by C.J. Harwin #giveaway

Welcome to my stop on the virtual book tour for KISS OF THE INCUBUS by C.J. Harwin, a Fantasy/Paranormal Romance available now from Loose Id.

http://goddessfishpromotions.blogspot.com/2015/08/book-blast-kiss-of-incubus-by-cj-harwin.html

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB
An incubus who feeds off the sexual desires of others, Roth de Lis has never been denied the pleasure of a woman’s body...until now. Lilah, once a warrior maiden in the service of a goddess, languishes on Earth after being cast out from the slopes of Mount Olympus.
Lilah will do anything to return home to Olympus, including betraying Roth. As she spins her web of lies, Roth begins a slow, wicked seduction that eventually threatens to consume them both. But when Lilah’s deceit comes to light, will their torrid love affair be able to overcome a pact with the darkest of gods?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT

Roth made his way back through the VIP room and into the dance area. Half a dozen women had approached him before he could make it to the door, slipping him phone numbers he’d never use and telling him names he didn’t care to know. One in particular got a little too frisky, trying to corral him into a kiss before he gently set her aside and continued making his way out.

He was only interested in one woman’s kiss, but Lilah had decided he wasn’t worth her time. And she’s right. Roth knew he didn’t have anything to offer one such as her, but he wanted her all the same. Want her. The incubus echoed his thoughts back to him, as if it were puzzling over the same riddle—how to make her… What? Make her love me? Impossible.

The hope at such a fairy tale died in his breast as he remembered how she’d turned from him after he revealed his terrible secret. He’d done so much to so many that he would forever be tainted. The incubus would never leave. To do so meant death for the both of them. She was repulsed by his evil, as she should be.

He would have sighed had he been the sort, but instead he pushed out the front doors, nearly breaking them off their hinges. He noted his empty car with a total lack of surprise. Lilah had a problem following directions, as he well knew. Her bullheaded nature made him smile to himself.

The he saw her. She stood as if frozen, somehow dumbstruck as a male slung his arm around her and groped her ass.

In an instant, Roth decided he would kill the male for touching her, but first he would make him suffer.

http://goddessfishpromotions.blogspot.com/2015/06/book-blast-madisons-song-by-christine.html

BLURB

Her voice is enchanting; his soul is black…

Madison Carter has been terrified of Scott Lee since the night he saved her from an evil sorcerer – then melted into a man-eating monster before her eyes. The werewolf is a slave to the moon, but Madison’s nightmares are not.

Despite her fears, when Madison’s brother, Clinton, is bitten by a werewolf, she knows there is only one man who can help. A man who frightens her all the more because even in her nightmares, he also thrills her.

Together for the first time since that terrible night, Scott and Madison drive to Clinton’s home only to discover that he’s vanished. Frantic now, Madison must overcome her fears and uncover hidden strengths if she hopes to save him. And she’s not the only one fighting inner demons. Scott’s are literal, and they have him convinced that he will never deserve the woman he loves.

*Stand-alone companion to the Cassie Scot series

EXCERPT

The first police car screamed into the lot, skidding to a halt so close to the front of the truck that it was a miracle it hadn't hit. They were caught. Madison glanced at Scott for instructions, but his eyes were closed and he was muttering something under his breath – casting a spell.

Two uniformed officers spilled from their car, but they didn't come towards them. Instead, they went for Mick and his dad, cutting them off before they could pile into a rusty Toyota. Then another squad car screamed into the lot, ejecting two more officers who went into the building.

“Go,” Scott murmured.

She barely heard him, but she obeyed. She put the truck in reverse, carefully backed away from the police car trying to kiss their bumper, then threw the truck into drive and peeled away. Madison kept glancing at the mirrors, even though the angles were wrong, looking behind them for the cars that would surely give chase. They didn't. The police officers acted as if they couldn't even see them.

It wasn't just the policemen who couldn't see them, as Madison discovered when she pulled into traffic. She screamed and slammed on the brakes, barely missing a collision when a car changed lines directly into their side.

“Are we invisible?” Madison asked.

5 & 5: Things You Didn’t Know About PM Briede and SMOLDERING EMBERS + Giveaway

Welcome to my stop on the book tour for Smoldering Embers by P.M. Briede a paranormal romance available now from California Times Publishing. This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Click on the banner to visit other stops on this tour.

BLURB

"Death is only the beginning." You hear that all the time. Maybe it is, for the soul who passes on. But what about the ones who are left behind?

I lost my husband unexpectedly in a tragic accident and now have to move back to my childhood home in New Orleans. Thank God for my friends Wesley and Paige. I’d be absolutely lost without them. As I pick up the pieces of what is left of my life, we settle back into our old routines. That is until I hire Olivier to work for me. Now my world is once again turning upside down as the people I’m closest to, old and new, shed the skin of what is familiar and ultimately redefine the nature of our relationships. Couple all of this with the return of my debilitating headaches and ominous dreams of green fire, and well, I’m just at a loss.

What do you do when what you thought you knew turns out to be wrong? What do you do when you find out you can’t trust the people closest to you? What do you do when you keep trying to move forward but life keeps getting in the way? And given all of this, how am I supposed to figure out who Charlotte Grace is now?

5 & 5 GUEST POST

Things you didn’t know about me, PM Briede:

  1. I love cupcakes!  I love to bake them.  I love to decorate them (though I never get too fancy).  AND I especially love to EAT THEM!  They are like the perfect amount of cake and frosting and goodness!  I make mine from scratch from a cookbook and will typically make anywhere between 2-6 dozen at a time.  “Why so many?” you may ask.  Because I love to share them too!
  2. Feel free to hate me for it, but I don’t consider myself to have vices.  You know the one or two things a person normally loves but isn’t really good for them for one reason or another, whether financially or from a health perspective.  I don’t drink.  I don’t smoke.  I don’t drink coffee.  I don’t really over-indulge.  But, I do love to travel and do so comfortably.  I like to stay in nice hotels.  I like to purchase whatever I want.  I like to dine out.  Here in a couple of years, I’ll be going on a European tour and I intend to do so first class!
  3. My favorite flower is the calla lily followed closely by the iris.  I love flowers and wish to high heaven that I had a greener thumb.  I can grow tulips and irises and pansies and columbines but my callas never stick.  Feel free to give me some advice!
  4. My favorite holiday is Halloween, but not for the reasons that you think.  I hate horror movies, mainly because I am a HUGE chicken and get easily scared.  That’s what happens when you live inside your own head most of the time.  But I love going pumpkin picking, then carving, and baking up the seeds.  I love pumpkin spice candy and chocolate.  And I love dressing my kiddos up and going door to door.
  5. While I mostly write different variations on romance novels, I’m a HUGE science fiction and fantasy reader.  Michael Crichton is my favorite, Timeline, Jurassic Park, and Sphere among the top.  But I also love Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series and of course the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.  (Can’t wait for the third movie!)

Things you didn’t know about Smoldering Embers:

  1. Wesley was not supposed to be such a main character.  When I first envisioned the story, he played a role at the very end but it was supposed to wholly be Charlotte’s and Olivier’s story.  But when I started writing him, he insisted on being an integral part of Charlotte’s journey.  I think he was right and I hope you agree.
  2. I seriously considered killing Charlotte at the end of the first book.  Don’t worry, I didn’t.  But it was one of those plot devices that I thought would make an interesting twist, to have the first book be from her perspective then finish out the tale with only Wesley and Olivier.  In the end, the reason I didn’t is because Smoldering Embers, Wild Fire, and Ashes are truly Charlotte’s story and evolution as a character and you can’t have that without her.
  3. The cover was completely my publisher’s brain child.  I did not want a person on any of the covers.  I wanted Charlotte, Wesley, and Olivier to be whomever you, as the reader, saw them to be.  I wanted you to be free to personalize them however you want.  My first cover only had silhouettes.  Then my publisher and I tried Rorschach images.  But none of them really seemed to work.  He pushed for a person, female, and when he distorted her face, I knew it was the perfect cover instantly.
  4. Charlotte’s home is a real home that was for sale at the time I wrote Smoldering Embers.  I took the virtual tour and just adored it!  I’ve always loved the Garden District and if I could handle living the super-hot south again, I would definitely live in that particular neighborhood.
  5. I get asked A LOT, “Why Latin?”  I took Latin in high school and college and just really enjoyed the language and its history.  It is so entrenched in every language spoken today.  I had a great teacher and good friends in those classes.  So I thought, this is one of those things that can bind Charlotte and Olivier and give them a different connection than she has with everyone else.

EXCERPT

PAIN! It was the only thought I had. There were voices but they were muffled even though they were loud and angry. It was as if their volume kept me from being able to understand anything other than that someone was present. But they didn’t matter. All that mattered was the pain.

It surrounded me. It crushed me from the outside. It pushed on me from the inside. The muscles in my body were so tense I thought they’d shred my bones. My head felt as though it was going to explode. I wanted it to explode! If it was gone I couldn’t experience this pain.

Something hit me, knocking my eyes open. Through the fog I could make out the carpet of my bedroom. I must have fallen out of bed. I haven’t had that dream since college. That eerie green fire that engulfed me. It’s the only thing I ever remembered about those dreams. But I was more than familiar with the aftermath. The throbbing headache that no pill could cure. The only remedy? Sleep.

But this time it was different. This time my entire body was throbbing as if I’d run a marathon I hadn’t prepared for. There was a pain in my chest that turned my stomach. I crawled into the bathroom and made it to the toilet just in time.

I don’t know how long I laid in my bathroom. After losing my stomach I didn’t have the energy to move. Normally after the dreams I’d roll over and find sleep quickly. The next time I woke up I would be good as new. But the effects of this dream lingered. That was until a voice pulled me out of my misery. “Charlotte!” my mother-in-law called. I couldn’t answer. She found me quickly. “Dear God! They said no one reached you yet!”

I opened my eyes and saw her panicked, tear-stained face. Something wasn’t right. I tried to ask after my nieces. No words passed my open mouth.

She helped me sit up. Once she was done talking I wished she’d never found me. “Charlotte, he’s gone.” I didn’t need clarification even though she gave it to me. The truth was written all over her. My chest suddenly felt empty. The facts didn’t matter. I knew it in my soul. “Giles is dead.”

AUTHOR Bio and Links

I am a lover of all things artistic. I grew up surrounded by the performing arts both as a spectator and performer. That love of creation and design is the fuel for my writing now. Being able to create and entertain is a dream come true.

The imagination is a powerful thing, able to take you places you never dreamed. I write realistic fantasy. The idea of the possible having impossible explanations fascinates me. That idea is the driving force behind the Charlotte Grace series.

BLURB

Despite a contract on her head, lone Drug Enforcement Agent, Aliyana Montijo must ferret out a mole and stop the assassination of top DEA officials, as so ordered by the Colombian drug lord she seeks to take down. The task is a daunting one, for there is no one she can trust. No one that is, until she encounters a most unlikely ally.

Former seventeenth century captain of the Dutch West Indies Company, Wolfaert Dircksen Van Ness, now from a parallel dimension, encounters the beautiful agent during an unearthly storm in the Bermuda triangle. Drawn to the Spanish beauty he rescues, he pledges his assistance, despite her reluctance to accept either his help or his heart.

Can Wolf bridge both space and time to claim the woman he loves?

EXCERPT

“Are you going to answer the question, or are you not?” he quipped, ignoring her comment altogether.

“Ooh! Tu' eres el hombre más exasperante que he tenido la desgracia de conocer!” she huffed as she folded her arms and slammed them hard against her chest.

“Sorry?” His eyes danced with sudden merriment, while his lips twitched in amusement. “I didn’t quite catch all that!”

In response to his mirth, she once again clenched her teeth. She could feel her cheeks flame as she jerked a pointed a finger toward his chest. “I said, you are the most exasperating man I’ve ever had the misfortune—”

The moment she drove her finger forward, her words abruptly ended and so did his mirth. Aliyana touched the tip of her tongue to her lips as she stared at what she could see of her finger. She slowly withdrew it from inside his chest, gazed at the digit, repeated her actions once more, and then gazed into his sky-blue eyes.

“Aliyana,” Wolf whispered. “Don’t be afraid of me. This isn’t what you think.”

She struggled to make sense of this new quandary. Her bewildered gaze shifted to his arms that still held her fast, traveled their length, and then rose to his face. Her lovely eyes, filled with such delightful indignation a moment ago, now held a trace of apprehension.

“Who are you?” she asked in a voice just audible to his ears. “Better yet, what are you?”

GUEST POST: Inspiration Behind Shadow of the Witte Wieven

Hello Tallulah! I am thrilled to be here with you today and share with you and your readers a little bit about the inspiration behind Shadow of the Witte Wieven.

First of all, you need to know that I love most all forms of artwork. Anyone who can pick up a brush and some paint, then create something breathtaking has my utmost respect. I wish I could do it, but I’m afraid I can do little more than draw some impressive stick figures for your entertainment. Anyway, one day while perusing a gallery filled with impressive works of art, I happened across a beautiful painting of a fierce lighting storm over an ocean. The colors used by the artist were just amazing and that got my imagination going. My thoughts eventually found their way to the Bermuda Triangle reports of the strange and bizarre--as well as the ferocity of the anomalous storms as witnessed by those who found their way out of them. From there, the “what if” part of my imagination took over.

“What if” a modern woman, let’s make her a DEA agent, fleeing from the Columbian drug lord bent on her demise, stole his plane in order to preserve her life? “What if” one of the infamous storms in the Bermuda Triangle flared while making her escape? “What if” during that storm, she crossed paths with a handsome 17th century captain who commanded a brigantine? “What if” during a like storm in the 17th century, he slipped into another dimension? “What if” he could revisit his former realm from time to time? What would happen if he fell in love with the beautiful DEA agent he encountered, and she with him? What choices would they then have to make?

Thus, Shadow of the Witte Wieven was born. I had a lot of fun writing this book and for those of you who choose to read it, I hope you find the same enjoyment as you immerse yourself in the story. If you do, drop me a line and tell me what you think! I love and appreciate hearing from all my readers!

Fantasy Casting Call for WORDS THAT BIND by Ash Krafton (Book Tour and Giveaway)

Fantasy Casting Call for WORDS THAT BIND by Ash Krafton

Tam Kerish, the therapist: Scarlett Johanssen

Tam Kerish is a complex character, and would have to be played by someone with tremendous range. At the start of the book, Tam is very reserved, on emotional lock-down. In fact, the social worker does truly experience emotions like normal people. She chose to study emotional dysfunction not only to help people find their way to a more balanced life, but also in the hopes of finding the key she needs to unlock her own emotions.

Scarlett nails that when she portrays the unshakable Natasha Romonov, the Black Widow. One look at her face and you know she’s stone all the way through. Tam Kerish gives new meaning to the term poker face—she doesn’t give anything away because she doesn’t feel anything. Think Spock or Data from Star Trek—but much sexier.

Burns is a fire elemental, a genie—and he is emotion in motion. Tam has no difficulty believing him when he walks into her office under the pretense of requiring counselling. He works an unknowing magic on her—and when they are together, she begins to experience true emotion. Her character goes through a transformation, from cold, clinical, unfeeling to deeply warm and sensual. Can you deny Scarlett wouldn’t portray that perfectly? Right down to the action scenes, through and through—Scarlett Johanssen is the perfect lady for the role.

As for our genie, he only burn one temperature straight through: blue flame.

Burns, the djinn: Hrithik Roshan

The prolific Bollywood actor is my first choice to play the extremely prolific 3 thousand year old djinn. Fire is a dance of energy, twisting, turning, always in motion—like Roshan’s magician character, Ethan, in Guzaarish, particularly the flashback scene where he dances on stage during an illusion performance. Ethan’s angst and desperation drive him near to breakdown—an emotional state so prevalent in both this tragic movie and this book.

But Burns is also staunchly traditional, and desert born and bred. Roshan portrayed the Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar in Jodhaa Akbar, so if you need to imagine him in sleeveless vests or billowy trousers (or hear the unrestrained passion in his voice) that’s the movie you need to see.

When Tam first encounters Burns, however, he looks nothing like a genie at all. He’s wearing a finely tailored suit, making him look more like a lawyer than a genie…and there’s no denying Roshan makes the cut when it comes to dressing sharp.

Looking at photos of these two actors and thinking about their work absolutely convinces me that they would be perfect to play this unlikely couple. They both possess the passion and the energy, as well as the quiet heat and sensuality this story requires.

Now, all we need are film options and a screenplay, and I think another wish will at last come true.

Social worker Tam Kerish can’t keep her cool professionalism when steamy client Mr. Burns kindles a desire for more than a client-therapist relationship—so she drops him. However, they discover she’s the talisman to which Burns, an immortal djinn, has been bound since the days of King Solomon…and that makes it difficult.

Ethical guidelines are unequivocal when it comes to personal relationships with clients. However, the djinn has a thawing effect on the usually non-emotive Tam, who begins to feel true emotion whenever he is near. Tam has to make a difficult choice: to stay on the outside, forever looking in…or to turn her back on her entire world, just for the chance to finally experience what it means to fall in love.

“So. You’ve destroyed a stereotype for me. A genie who lives in a library. Different.”

“When in Rome, no?” He stirred his cup before setting down the spoon with a light clink against the saucer. “Or, I suppose it is more accurate to say when in human form. When I am Burns, I prefer here.”

“Human form.” It didn’t sound right. Who said things like that, and meant it? “Can you change into anything you want? Any shape at all?”

He stretched out his legs and cocked his head, sliding his gaze up and away. “I suppose I could. I’m getting old and set in my ways. There’s this…” He swept his hands down the line of his body.

Her eyes were unable to keep from following, not even when he lingered over his midsection. Even lounging, his shirt was tightly tucked into his beltline. No belly fat there.

He tilted his head and gave her an upper-teeth smile, nibbling gently at his lower lip. “And apparently this form is pleasing to the eye, so I wear it often. But there are others. Tiger, a favorite. Savage and regal and the colors of flames in the night. Fearsome to behold, but very useful when dealing with physical conditions in which a human form may be outmatched. Plus, I can lash my tail.”

His voice took a teasing, conspirator’s tone. “I love my tail. You’d love it too, if you saw it.”

She trained her eyes firmly upon his. No way would she give him the pleasure of checking out his tail.

EXCERPT

I took a seat on the stones and pulled my knees up to my chest, resting my chin and just taking it all in. Moss crept up the stones on the bank, giving way to a lush carpet of grass and wildflowers. Again, I smelled heather, but couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from. Heather couldn't survive in this climate, even next to this little brook. It must be the combination of all the wildflowers' scents mixed together.

My eyelids became heavy. This seemed odd as I’d rested well last night and hadn't been up that long. I sat there, feeling a bit hazy and sleepy, and noticed a small creature venturing up, maybe to drink from the brook? It wasn't a squirrel. The tail wasn't long enough. Maybe a chipmunk, though the markings on the fur weren’t right. This wasn't anything I’d seen before.

I watched it, trying to decide what animal family it could be from, when it looked up at me. It stared right into my eyes. I gawked, my eyes widening when I realized this little creature’s eyes weren't the little black dots I would expect, but a misty gray seeming to swirl as if a fog was contained within them. This little creature winked, and then scampered away.

I shook my head. My imagination was running away with itself again. I attempted to move, but my body had other plans. Instead of finding myself standing, I’d actually lain down. My eyes got heavier the longer I rested. A small nap can’t hurt. I had no pressing work, and the call to Todd could wait. I closed my eyes and let the sun warm my face as I drifted off to sleep.

"Jami," a voice whispered

Startled, I sat up and shaded my eyes.

"Jami, dear."

I scanned the trees, trying to locate the owner of the voice.

"Down here, dearie."

Peeking down, I found that the little creature who had scampered away, was in fact at my feet, gazing at me. I drew my feet up quickly.

"I’m dreaming." I scanned the area again. "Who's there? This isn't funny."

"Yes, dear, ye are dreaming and please quit thinking of me as a creature. I have a name, and it’s Roma."

I stared at this little creature with its round black eyes and fluffy, multi-hued brown fur. I rubbed my eyes. Sure enough, she was still there. "But, how?"

"It's a dream, dearie. Anything can happen in dreams"

"Who or what are you?"

"As I said, my name is Roma, and all ye need to know is I am here to help you. To give ye a bit of advice"

"What kind of advice?" Heck if this was a dream, I may as well play along. It could make for a great story if I remembered it when I woke up.

"Keep an open mind and an open heart. Yer fate is going to show itself to ye soon." Roma skittered away into the trees.

BLURB

Every seven years, the towns sacrifice their sick and disabled. No one has ever survived the angels’ harvest. Until now.

“Every seven years, seven persons from each of the ten towns must go into the desert, where they will enter into the realm of Elovah, their God.”

No one knows exactly what happens to these seventy Tithes, but everyone knows who: the “unworkables,” those with differing physical and mental capacities. Joshua Barstow, raised for twenty years among her town’s holy women, is one of these seventy Tithes. She is joined by the effervescent Lynna, the scholarly Avery, and the amoral Blue, a man who has spent most of his life in total solitude.

Each night, an angel swoops down to take one of their numbers. Each night, that is, except the first, when the angel touches Josh… and leaves her. What is so special about Josh? She doesn’t feel special; she feels like a woman trying to survive while finally learning the meanings of friendship, community, and love.

How funny that she had to be sacrificed to find reasons to live.

EXCERPT

“I don’t want to die.” The words surprised her, spinning so artlessly from her lips.

“I don’t want you to die,” Blue agreed.

“What about you?” Josh whispered.

He didn’t respond for a long moment. “It doesn’t much matter, I guess.”

“Of course it matters!”

“If you say so,” he said.

“Blue,” she began, and then stopped. “Blue, why? Aren’t you scared?”

His blue eyes remained completely empty. Had his mouth not moved, she might think him a statue. “No.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t matter. I’ve spent my life existing. Sometimes I think the best thing humanity does is provide sustenance for bacteria and other symbiotes. And then there was here. And you, Joshua Barstow.”

“I’m not special,” she insisted.

“You exist so grandly, so loudly, I can feel you. The air trembles around you. You walk through a room and atoms collide. Everyone here can feel the greatness of your being. They may love you or despise you or want you to lead them, but everyone notices you.”

She exhaled a startled breath. Blue, her friend, her bodyguard, her socially-backward philosopher. Her hand moved to his hair, smoothing through its knots. When her voice returned, she told him, “You matter, Blue.”

“I don’t,” he said gently, as if imparting an uncomfortable truth to a child.

“You matter a lot to me,” she carefully enunciated, unsnarling a particularly knotted tangle.

“Well, then.”

Seduced by a Beta by Elle Hill

I papered the walls of my adolescent and early adult existence with the pages of romance novels. As I got older, I expanded to other genres, but romances will always mean safety, comfort, and reliability to the adult Elle. I love romances: their predictable narrative format, their feel-good happily-ever-afters, their celebration of relationships as the most crucial aspect of human existence. I have great affection and nostalgia for some of the more common romantic staples: the initial dislike and distrust that hides bubbling passion, the BFF who represents the shero’s and/or hero’s id, the shero’s stumble or fall from a tree root or from a ladder (oopsy-daisy!) and into the strong arms of that oh-so-insufferable man. I even find adorable some of the impossible euphemisms for orgasms. Overall, I’m a flag-waving fan of the genre. Only one thing causes a slight snag in my overwhelming devotion to the genre: A preponderance of alpha men.

I like alphas; they’re great peeps and all. And sure, I realize romances are all about ideals, from romantic relationships themselves to the people who populate them. But, you know, I also dig gender diversity. Is it just me, or does your heart go pitter-pat at the thought of a tender, nurturing man with a far bigger IQ than gun collection? And who isn’t seduced by the thought of a nerdy, bespectacled hero, ala Spencer Reed in Criminal Minds or Daniel Jackson in Stargate: SG-1, who use their brains rather than a bullwhip to help the shero save the day?

I don’t write alphas, or at least not traditional ones. At folks’ urging, I’ve written semi-alpha men, but they tend to read more like moody brooders. My question for you: Am I the only one who wants to read about heroes who look like hot nerds and sensuous poets rather than arrogant business tycoons and vampire lords?

Alpha males are great, but is there also room for nurturing, sexy, and soulful heroes with backgrounds in quantum mechanics? Yum!

BLURB

Violca knows life can change instantly. Her parents died suddenly, leaving her to raise four younger sisters and keep them safe ~ even from the golden-eyed stranger.

Chase knows the Grey sisters possibly hold the key to his fate. He is determined to to get close, protect them and bring them to his Dragon King. What Violca doesn't know is that once a dragon decides he wants something, there is no stopping him from getting it.

EXCERPT

Opening the door, she steps onto the patio and smiles at Eryk. Her eyes are drawn to some movement behind him and she looks up to see Chase walking in from the woods. He is wearing his pants low on his hips and no shirt. Her breath catches as she notices his rippling muscles and the light traces of a six pack on his abs. When her eyes finally roam up to his face, she feels her cheeks heat up. His self-satisfied smile tells her he saw her checking him out.

Eryk clears his throat. “Good morning.”

Violca swears she must be beet red. She smiles at Eryk. “Morning, I just wanted to invite you guys in for eggs and sausage.”

Scott peaks his head out of the tent. “Did you say sausage?”

“Yep, do you want to join us?”

“Hell yeah,” Scott replies, crawling out from the tent.

Violca’s eyes widen. Scott is also in only a pair of jeans, no shirt, and Violca smiles thinking Linda and the girls would be mad to find out that she is the first to see him with his shirt off. She hears a growl and turns to see Chase watching her. “Be careful, I think there is an animal close by,” she says, wondering where that sound came from. “It shouldn’t be too much longer.”
